Chef Renee Forsberg's Journey Against
Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

In November 2022, Chef Renee Forsberg, a force in the culinary world, faced an unexpected battle: a diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer. This aggressive form of breast cancer, often striking women under 40, threatened to derail her life and career. Despite the shock, Renee met the challenge head-on.

Her diagnosis, initially nearing stage two and after 6 months of chemotherapy, quickly escalated to stage three when surgery revealed the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. Triple negative breast cancer, notoriously difficult to treat than other breast cancers and more likely to come back, left Renee with limited options. She embarked on a grueling 20-month journey of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery, radiation, and oral chemotherapy, enduring debilitating side effects that continue to impact her life.

Yet, even in the midst of her treatment, Renee's passion for culinary excellence remained unwavering. Just ten days after her final radiation session, she traveled to Las Vegas to assist her longtime collaborator, Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay, in opening his new restaurant at Caesar's Palace. It was a testament to her resilience and unwavering dedication.

Following her conventional treatments, Renee embraced alternative medicine, determined to bolster her health and defy the high recurrence rate associated with triple negative breast cancer. "Being out of treatment is really hard because you are on your own and want to beat the odds," she confesses. Eight months post-treatment, she remains vigilant, continuing her alternative therapies to minimize the risk of recurrence.

In February 2024, Renee embarked on a new chapter, joining Town House Kitchen + Drinks in New Rochelle as Culinary Director. This role signifies not only her return to the culinary world but also her commitment to living life to its fullest.

Renee's story is a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit. She is now using her platform to raise awareness about triple negative breast cancer, particularly in young women, and to inspire others facing similar challenges. Her journey is a reminder that even in the face of adversity, passion, resilience, and hope can prevail.
